Non-Translucent Acrylic

Non-Translucent Acrylic refers to acrylic sheets that do not allow the passage of light, resulting in an opaque or solid appearance. Unlike translucent or transparent acrylic, these sheets block the transmission of light, making them suitable for various applications where visibility through the material is not desired.

Product Description

Non-Translucent Acrylic is commonly chosen for projects that require privacy, light blocking, or a solid, opaque surface. This type of acrylic is available in a variety of colors, thicknesses, and finishes, providing versatility for different design and functional needs. Whether used for signage, displays, or other creative projects, Non-Translucent Acrylic offers a solid and opaque solution.

Description of Non-Translucent Acrylic:

Acrylic, known by various names such as Plexiglass, Lucite, Perspex, Acrylite, and Optix, stands as a versatile plastic material with a wide range of applications. Introduced in 1928 and brought to the market in 1933 by Rohm and Haas Company, acrylic found initial use during World War II for products like airplane windows, canopies, and turrets.

Renowned for its durability, acrylic surpasses glass, being 10 times stronger, resistant to high pressure and impact, and displaying remarkable endurance against weather and temperature variations.

Our Non-Translucent Acrylic features a soft matte translucent finish on both sides that transforms into crystal-clear clarity when flush against images.

Glare can be a significant concern for hobbyists, industry professionals, and individuals alike when choosing materials for a project. Non-Glare plexiglass (P-99) is meticulously designed to minimize glare and reflections while maximizing the unhindered viewing of framed artwork and prints. At Plastic-Craft, we offer custom-sized Crystal Clear Non-Translucent Acrylics to meet your specific display needs, understanding the challenges of finding the perfect size for your artwork.

Maintenance:

Acrylic is easy to clean and polish using a clean cloth and appropriate cleaning compounds. Special abrasive compounds can be used to remove light scratches. At Plastic-Craft, we provide cleaners and polishers like the Novus polishing kit to keep your acrylic looking new for years to come.

Light Transmission:

Light transmission, or transparency to light, is a crucial factor. Clear Acrylic boasts a 92 percent light transmittance rate—one of the highest in the industry. While acrylic allows light of wavelengths greater than 375 nm to pass through, it blocks UV-C wavelengths (100–290 nm), ensuring protection. Even thin acrylic sheets under 5 millimeters do not permit UV-C light penetration.
